Interior Design in Commercial Settings

This month we are devoting our newsletter to commercial and workspace design. After all, most of us spend more time at work than we do in our own living rooms!.

Making Neutrals Feel Fresh and Exciting

Neutrals are by far the most popular hues in decorating. What is a neutral tone? The strict definition of neutral includes black, white, and all shades of grey. They are “non-colors” because they do not appear on the color wheel. However, in recent years the common definition of neutrals has been expanded to include any muted, low intensity color. For instance, a very pale beige or gold can be considered a neutral. So can a grey with slight hints of red or blue.

New in 2008: Design Trends

This is going to be an exciting year for interior design! There are so many emerging trends this year, you are bound to find something you like. Some trends are a continuation of hot themes from 2007. For instance, last year eco-friendly designs became more mainstream. You'll find even more organic, natural and recycled products this year.

Working with an Interior Designer

You've decided to work with an interior designer. This is an exciting time as you prepare to create the space of your dreams. However, you probably have a lot of questions, including "How will I get the look I want?" and "Am I going to get my money's worth?" This month, I'm going to give you some pointers on how to get the most from a relationship with an interior designer.

Marriage of Style

Men and women often have very different ideas about what makes an ideal interior. Therefore, when designing a space for a couple, it’s best to strive for a gender neutral environment that reflects both partners’ personalities. For instance, we often see beautiful bedrooms with pastel or floral duvets and accessories. That’s fine, unless a man also inhabits the space. A good rule is to stick to solid, neutral colors on larger pieces. Add patterns and/or bold colors in the form of accessories.

Creating Warm Home

It is hard to believe, but summer is winding down. After months of spending our leisure time enjoying outdoor activities, like gardening and grilling, the upcoming cooler weather means we will be heading back indoors. When it’s chilly outside, there is nothing nicer than walking into a cozy, comfortable home. However, you don’t have to wait for the temperatures to dip to create an environment that exudes warmth. When interior designers discuss warm spaces, they are talking about much more than thermostats. A warm interior is one that feels intimate, relaxed, and most of all, welcoming. In most cases, you can add warmth to your home with some relatively easy, inexpensive changes.

Green Design

The interest in creating "green" or "eco-friendly" living spaces has never been greater. The interior design industry is responding to the increased demand with countless new products and techniques.

Affordable Bathroom

We've all seen dramatic bathroom makeovers in magazines and on popular television shows. However, that drama usually comes with a major price tag. This month, we are going to explore some ways to achieve a fast and inexpensive new look in even the most outdated bathroom.

Big Ideas for Small Spaces

Living in a small space should feel cozy, not claustrophobic. There are many ways to make small homes seem larger. Here are some ideas to get you started.

Creating A Private Spa

Over the last few decades, bathrooms have changed dramatically. Homeowners are no longer content with just a sink, toilet and tub. Increasingly, bathrooms are becoming private spas, offering a place for pampering and relaxation.

Great Entrances

Imagine you are throwing an important party in your home. The food is ready, your table setting looks beautiful, and the candles are lit. Now, you hear the first knock at your door.
