Living in a small space should feel cozy, not claustrophobic. There are many ways to make small homes seem larger. Here are some ideas to get you started:
Get Rid of Clutter : This is first and foremost! Eliminate everything you don’t need. Create space for what you love.
Color : Lighter colors on the walls and ceilings will expand a room.
Think Big : Don’t be afraid of larger pieces of furniture and accessories. A few large pieces will make a room seem bigger than many dainty, small items.
Decorate Vertically : Use interesting paint combinations, crown moldings, and
chair rails on the walls to draw the eye up. This creates the illusion of volume.
Continuous Flooring : Allow spaces to flow from one area to the next by using the same or similar flooring throughout your home. Use area rugs, not different flooring, to create a division of space. Light colors, such as a pale hardwood, will make your home seem even larger.
Illuminate : Darkness can make rooms feel smaller. Make sure you have plenty of light. Mirrors hung to reflect the light from windows will work wonders!
Storage : If storage is limited, use multi-functional furniture. Chests can serve as tables and places to hold games and blankets.
